Agent Florida finds dead man and moves into his house, caught after expensive renovation
In Florida, a police officer was arrested for assuming the identity of a deceased man. Officer Brian Louis Sguros responded to a welfare check in July 2022, discovering that 71-year-old Dennis West had died. Sguros falsely claimed to be a friend of West and took over his identity, moving into West's home and paying bills under the deceased's name. He even forged West's signature to obtain renovation permits. The fraud was uncovered when heirs of West were located by a real estate firm. Sguros is now facing charges of fraud and identity theft, while he claims he moved in to prevent the house from being vandalized. He has been placed on unpaid leave.
