A mafia attack occurred in Cassano all'Ionio, targeting Damiano Pepe, a 64-year-old alleged organized crime figure. The attack resulted in the death of his wife, Silvana Sibarelli, while Pepe sustained serious injuries. The assailants struck near their home around midnight. Pepe was initially taken to a hospital in Corigliano Rossano before being transferred to Cosenza for surgery. Silvana was 60 years old.
