Aguiar-Branco calls for cohesion in the European Union

The President of the Assembly of the Republic emphasized the need for the EU to enhance innovation and competitiveness while ensuring social and territorial cohesion. Speaking at a conference on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028/2034, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco highlighted that Europe is losing ground to major global economies and faces challenges in transforming knowledge into innovation. He stressed the importance of addressing new priorities in the upcoming budget, including defense and security, while maintaining support for peripheral regions. Aguiar-Branco argued that true competitiveness cannot exist without cohesion and called for a balanced approach to both aspects in shaping the future of Europe.
