Hungarian AVH officer hanged on Nagykörút, stroller in place of coffin – we present today's image of the revolution's sites

The 1956 revolution in Hungary attracted significant attention from both local and Western media, resulting in a rich photographic documentation. However, this documentation became a curse for many, as authorities used these images during reprisals. Conversely, foreign photojournalists garnered sympathy for the Hungarian struggle against tyranny. A photo series revisits iconic locations from the revolution, contrasting past events with present-day scenes. Historical context is provided by historian György Majtényi, explaining the significance of each site along a route from Széna tér to Ötvenhatosok tere.
