"The euphoria regarding the Hungarian government has proven to be unfounded" - SPAR wrote a letter

The CEO of SPAR's Austrian parent company has urged the European Commission to intervene regarding Hungary's retail tax, which remains unchanged. Hans Reisch expressed skepticism about the tax being abolished soon, labeling the government's changes as mere smoke screens. He criticized the Hungarian government for systematically disadvantaging foreign retailers and called for infringement proceedings. The retail tax will persist in the 2027 regulations, maintaining a 4.5% rate on revenues exceeding 50 billion HUF. SPAR's director noted that the Hungarian Prime Minister is removing the margin cap while keeping the extra tax, which costs SPAR 130 million euros annually.
