Alarm on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea is preparing for a clash at the border
North Korea is intensifying border fortifications following Kim Jong Un's declaration of hostile relations with South Korea. Increased military activity includes the installation of barbed wire, mines, and anti-tank barriers along the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Kim Yo Jong announced that new artillery units have taken positions at the border. Tensions escalated after an explosion injured South Korean soldiers, attributed to North Korean landmines, which Pyongyang denied. The DMZ, established in 1953, is one of the most mined areas globally, with over 2 million mines estimated to be present.
