Aleksander Hall: It's high time for reflection

Since December 2015, Jarosław Kaczyński aimed to control the Constitutional Tribunal, achieving this goal within a year. The introduction of PiS politicians into the Tribunal highlighted its politicization. Despite public disapproval, the Tribunal's composition was constitutional until recent changes. The current government has not appointed new judges to replace those whose terms expired, deviating from legal norms. The situation escalated with the controversial appointment of judges and the takeover of the Tribunal's building. This crisis risks political conflict and undermines Poland's international standing. A constitutional reset is necessary to establish new selection criteria for judges, but political polarization hinders progress.
