Germany suffers the first acts of vandalism in the wave of European protests
Germany experienced its first acts of vandalism during recent European protests, with significant unrest in Frankfurt. The protests, organized by Gen Z Regelt, attracted around 120,000 participants, although police reported lower numbers. Violence erupted in several cities after dark, leading to over 200 arrests nationwide. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt attributed the violence to leftist extremists and migrants, despite local officials stating most detainees were German. Frankfurt saw looting in its main shopping area, resulting in injuries to 100 police officers. The government had prepared for potential unrest, monitoring radical groups ahead of the protests. Dobrindt's communication strategy aims to counteract fears propagated by the far-right AfD party.
