Tsunami alert canceled after earthquakes near Vanuatu

The U.S. tsunami monitoring center canceled an alert following two earthquakes of magnitudes 6.9 and 6.3 near Vanuatu. Initially, a 7.2 magnitude quake was reported, but later updates confirmed two quakes at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 200 kilometers offshore. The monitoring center had warned of potentially dangerous tsunami waves within 300 kilometers of the epicenter. Vanuatu, located in the Pacific's 'Ring of Fire', frequently experiences seismic activity. A significant earthquake in December 2024 caused destruction in Port-Vila, resulting in at least 14 fatalities.
