National Security Archives: The documents are incomplete, their content may not necessarily reflect reality.
On November 4, approximately 50,000 to 60,000 former agents' names and data will be publicly accessible on nyitottaktak.hu. The director of the Historical Archives of State Security Services, Cseh Gergő Bendegúz, emphasized the importance of critical evaluation of these documents. Initially, three types of records will be available: identification cards, recruitment logs, and data from the 1970s. More detailed files will be released by February 25, 2027. The law regarding the public access to these files was passed by the Parliament in September. Many requests have been made to withhold certain data, but the law does not allow this. The director noted that the roles of victim and perpetrator can be complex in a dictatorship, and many may find former agents among their relatives or acquaintances. A significant portion of the documents is missing due to historical events, particularly during the 1956 revolution.
