If a parking meter is defective, you do not have to look for another one, rules the Court of Cassation
The Court of Cassation ruled that if a parking meter is broken, drivers can use their blue parking disc without seeking another working meter. This decision arose from a case involving a woman in Charleroi who received a fine for not paying at a defective meter. Initially, a lower court sided with her, but the city appealed to the Cassation Court, which upheld her right to use the disc according to traffic regulations. This ruling may prompt many municipalities to revise their parking regulations, which often require drivers to find another meter or pay via an app when a meter is out of order.
