Alzheimer and Parkinson. President of IPDN calls for co-funding of experimental treatments

Isabelle de Oliveira, president of the Portuguese Institute of Neurodegenerative Diseases, emphasizes the urgent need for public funding of innovative treatments for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. During the IPDN's first international scientific congress, she highlighted the increasing availability of experimental therapies that could significantly benefit patients, especially in early stages. With dementia cases in the EU exceeding 9 million, and projections indicating a 58% rise, the urgency for action is clear. Oliveira also pointed out the importance of supporting caregivers, who often face burnout due to a lack of structured responses. The discussion centered on the necessity of economic investment to improve patient care and alleviate pressure on families and healthcare systems.
