Americans can no longer afford even sweets. Halloween marked by high prices
According to NielsenIQ, candy sales for Halloween dropped by 6.7% compared to last year, influenced by rising living costs and high gasoline prices. The average price of gasoline in the U.S. reached $4.29 per gallon, nearly 40% higher than last year, impacting consumer spending on candy. While small candy packages saw a sales increase, larger packages experienced significant declines. Candy prices have risen faster than inflation, with chocolate prices up 44% over the past five years. Despite lower prices for some non-chocolate candies, demand remains weak. The National Confectioners Association remains optimistic about Halloween sales, citing strong consumer enthusiasm.
