Amsterdam extends fatbike ban in Vondelpark, but does not expand it

Between May 11 and September 1, park rangers issued 167 fines and 138 warnings in Vondelpark. Despite 20 objections against the fines, all were dismissed. Alderman Elise Moeskops stated that the fatbike ban is effective, as fewer riders choose to enter the park, leading to reduced disturbances. However, while fatbike traffic has increased around the park, there have been no reports of increased disturbances or safety issues. Notably, traffic safety within the park has not improved, likely due to congestion and other fast cyclists. The city will not extend the fatbike ban to other areas until national legislation is established, including a minimum age and helmet requirement.
