Ângela Ferreira returns to the past to create the future

Angela Ferreira's exhibition "Here I Stand" at MAC/CCB showcases over three decades of her work, reflecting on colonial history and its impact. The artist, originally from Mozambique, explores themes of identity, resistance, and the legacy of colonialism through various mediums. The exhibition features 25 works, including installations that interrogate urban segregation and the influence of historical figures like Angela Davis. Ferreira's pieces connect Africa and Portugal, addressing the complexities of mining history and anthropological studies under authoritarian regimes. The exhibition emphasizes the importance of revisiting and questioning historical narratives and the role of art in amplifying voices of resistance.
