Former union leader of the PSP sentenced to pay 177 thousand euros

Dionísio Câmara, former leader of the Independent Union of Public Security Police Agents, was sentenced to pay €177,000 for misusing union funds for personal expenses. He received a four-year suspended prison sentence for aggravated breach of trust. The misuse was discovered after his departure in 2015, revealing a diversion of approximately €120,000 from member contributions. The new union leadership conducted an audit that uncovered personal debts and expenses. The union's president expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, emphasizing the goal of recovering funds for members. Câmara, who lives in Madeira, acknowledged his actions during the trial but remains silent on the payment execution process.
