APA issues unfavorable decision for the solar power plant in Serra do Marão

The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) rejected the photovoltaic hybridization project at Penedo Ruivo Wind Farm due to significant negative environmental impacts. Despite potential benefits in renewable energy production, the project was deemed incompatible with the area's ecological values. The proposal involved 21 hectares, with 7 for solar panels, aiming for an annual output of 24.86 GWh. Public consultation showed overwhelming opposition, citing threats to protected territories and local biodiversity. Only a few supported the project, and the evaluation committee highlighted insufficient mitigation measures for the identified ecological and territorial impacts.
