Support for the purchase of electric cars for the most disadvantaged may reach 15 thousand euros, announces minister

The Portuguese government announced a new support program for low-income families to purchase electric vehicles, offering up to €15,000. The initiative, led by Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho, aims to promote electric vehicle adoption and reduce diesel dependency. Families with social electricity tariffs and incomes below 80% of the national median will be prioritized. The program will launch in early 2027, with an estimated budget of €104.5 million to support around 5,500 vehicles. Additionally, funding for electric buses and microenterprises is planned, with a total support for over 21,500 electric vehicles. The government emphasizes decarbonization and electrification as key priorities for 2027.
