Archaeologists uncover well-preserved piece of city wall in Herentals

In Herentals, an archaeological excavation has uncovered a well-preserved section of the city wall near the Bovenrij and Nonnenvest, where a new residential area will be developed. Previous research indicated medieval habitation and remnants of the old defensive wall. Archaeologists are now investigating how this wall was constructed over different periods. The findings will provide insights into the historical development of Herentals and its inhabitants. Residents and tourists can observe the excavation from a distance, and part of the wall will be integrated into the new development to highlight the city's historical significance.
