Storage. Government opens energy auctions
The Portuguese government has launched two auctions for electricity grid connection capacity titles aimed at renewable energy and autonomous electricity storage. One auction focuses on renewable energy producers with a maximum capacity of 300 MVA, while the other targets autonomous storage facilities with a total capacity of 750 MVA. These are the first competitive procedures since 2021, intended to attract investment in renewable production and battery installations. The auctions will reserve a portion of revenues for local communities and municipalities, promoting solar energy integration with agriculture. The initiative aligns with national energy storage goals for 2030, aiming for 3 GW of battery storage.
