Arnika: The Čistírna in Pardubice released multiple times more persistent chemicals year-on-year

The wastewater treatment plant in Rybitví released nearly seven times more PFAS chemicals last year, raising concerns about environmental contamination. The source of these chemicals remains unclear, with potential contributions from both municipal wastewater and chemical operations. The Arnika organization reported that the plant accounted for about two-thirds of the total PFAS emissions in the Czech Republic. The presence of PFAS in sediments near the plant has been documented, prompting calls for better management of wastewater to prevent further contamination. The plant is exploring new technologies to address PFAS removal as EU regulations on wastewater treatment evolve.
