Association appeals for the protection of the statue of D. Pedro IV
The Fórum Cidadania Lx association urged the Lisbon City Council to protect the D. Pedro IV statue from vandalism amid housing protests. They expressed concern over the lack of protective measures for the monument, which has faced vandalism during recent demonstrations. The association called for a temporary structure to prevent further damage, highlighting that similar protections are provided for other monuments during events. The Lisbon mayor acknowledged the housing cause but condemned the vandalism as unacceptable. Protests against the housing crisis began in Porto and spread to Lisbon, with demands for price controls and taxes on large corporate profits. Authorities have removed tents and detained protesters, promising continued demonstrations.
