Association celebrates opinions against ceremony at school

The Associação República e Laicidade expressed satisfaction after the Commission for Religious Freedom and the Ombudsman confirmed illegalities regarding a religious ceremony at a public school inauguration. They emphasized that such ceremonies violate the principle of non-confessionalism in state acts, as outlined in Portuguese law. The association had previously requested evaluations from key officials regarding the legality of the ceremony, which included a Catholic blessing by the Patriarch of Lisbon. They have informed the Public Prosecutor's Office about the findings from the Commission and the Ombudsman.
