Average speed was measured on the M6, the highest section average was 213 km/h
On October 13, the Hungarian Road Administration conducted a speed test on the M6 highway, revealing that over 17% of vehicles exceeded an average speed of 145 km/h. The highest recorded average speed was 213.55 km/h, with most violations occurring between 1 and 4 AM. Minister Dávid Vitézy emphasized the need for average speed monitoring to address persistent speed violations, as current laws do not allow penalties based on average speed data. He noted that a significant majority of respondents supported stricter measures against excessive speeding, particularly over 200 km/h. Vitézy highlighted the importance of differentiating between minor and severe speed violations, advocating for regulations that reflect these differences, aiming to enhance road safety rather than merely increase fines.
