The government will review the major sporting events held in recent years
A government decree has been published regarding the review of state-funded international sports events held in Hungary between 2022 and 2025. The decree mandates the Minister of Interior, in collaboration with the Minister of Finance, to assess major sports events organized during this period. This review will cover the preparation, ordering, financing, and accounting of these events. The Minister must also evaluate findings from external expert reviews related to events in 2025 and determine further targeted investigations. A budget proposal for the review must be prepared by the end of November, with the review itself to be completed by the end of March. The National Communication Office previously disclosed the funding allocated for organizing key international sports events from 2023 to 2026, with the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest having the highest costs.
