Austen struck Great Britain. Thousands of homes without power, canceled flights, and closed schools

The storm has severely impacted Cornwall, Devon, and the Channel Islands, causing power outages for around 18,000 homes. Schools in Jersey were closed, and many in Cornwall opened late or not at all. Transportation disruptions occurred, with Great Western Railway warning of delays and reduced speeds in Scotland. Airports faced significant cancellations, with about 70% of flights from Jersey canceled due to high winds. The storm also caused part of the historic West Pier in Brighton to collapse into the sea. Meteorologists warn of another storm, Boelo, expected to hit Northern Ireland, Scotland, and northern England soon.
