Abortion: The Andorran government presents a bill decriminalizing abortion

The Andorran government has proposed a law partially decriminalizing abortion, allowing women to avoid criminal charges for seeking abortions abroad. The bill, which still needs parliamentary approval, modifies the penal code that currently imposes six months of imprisonment for women who undergo abortion. However, medical professionals performing abortions will still face penalties, including three years in prison. This initiative follows negotiations with the Vatican and aims to clarify that protecting life should not involve criminalizing women. The Andorran executive hopes to achieve full decriminalization by spring 2027, without legalizing abortion.
