Failure of the underwater cable in the Baltic Sea

Svenska Kraftnaet is investigating a recent fault that did not affect the energy network's operation. The Lithuanian operator Litgrid reported that the disconnection was due to an issue on the Swedish side. Lithuania activated energy reserves, ensuring supply continuity. The NordBalt cable, operational since 2016, aims to enhance Lithuania's energy security and mitigate high electricity prices. In Sweden, high electricity prices have led the government to announce subsidies for residents in certain regions. Similar measures were implemented earlier this year due to fuel crises and record gas prices in 2022.
