Failure of the underwater power connection between Lithuania and Sweden

After a power outage, the Lithuanian energy operator activated reserves, ensuring no disruptions in electricity supply. The Nordbalt link is a high-voltage direct current cable connecting Lithuania and Sweden, spanning 453 km across the Baltic Sea. It was launched in December 2015. In November 2024, the cable was nearly damaged by the anchor of a Chinese cargo ship, Yi Peng 3, which also damaged two telecommunications cables. However, the Nordbalt cable remained intact, and electricity supply was not affected.
