The Constitutional Court may decide whether paying for parking in cash is a fundamental right

The ombudsman has approached the Constitutional Court regarding the interpretation of cash payment rights, as cash payments for parking in Budapest are not allowed. Latorcai Csaba from KDNP highlighted that cash payment is a constitutional right. The ombudsman seeks clarification on whether choosing cash payment is a fundamental right and if the state must ensure conditions for its practical application. Since July 1, 2026, parking payments in Budapest can only be made via mobile applications, SMS, or voice calls.
