According to one of the largest credit rating agencies, the introduction of the euro in 2032 is realistic
Hungary could adopt the euro by 2032 if it reduces its budget deficit and joins the ERM II mechanism by 2029, according to Fitch Ratings. The main challenge is the current excessive deficit procedure, with a projected budget deficit of 7.5% of GDP this year. The 2027 budget aims for a 4.9% deficit, and public debt may stabilize below 78% of GDP by 2026-2027. The introduction of the euro could improve Hungary's credit rating by eliminating currency risk and reducing financing costs. However, inflation control remains crucial, and while the economy may recover from stagnation, sustainable growth is uncertain. Trust from markets must be earned, as stated by GKI's director.
