Baby mafia in Las Merindades: this is how the caravan of Brazilians traveling to Burgos to give birth and obtain papers works
Elinekelly and Joelma are among 25 Brazilian women who gave birth in Burgos after being trafficked from Belgium and France. A criminal network charged up to €2,500 for services including transportation, accommodation, and legal registration for their newborns, allowing parents to gain residency rights. The operation was uncovered when local health authorities noticed an unusual increase in Brazilian mothers registering at the same address. The network, consisting of two Spaniards and two Brazilians, exploited loopholes in Spanish bureaucracy to facilitate births and obtain Spanish IDs for the children. Investigations revealed that the organization profited from both the births and by registering other undocumented immigrants, highlighting a broader issue of illegal immigration practices in Spain.
