Bank manager was deceived by scammers, 35 billion forints were stolen
A fraud case involving artificial intelligence led to the embezzlement of nearly 35 billion HUF from an Italian bank. The scheme targeted Paolo Molesini, the president of Fideuram, who was deceived by a deepfake impersonating the CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo. Following a WhatsApp message and a phone call, Molesini authorized transfers to foreign accounts, primarily in China and Hong Kong. Although a significant portion of the funds was recovered, around 36 million euros remain missing. Investigations are ongoing, but no charges have been filed against Molesini or other Fideuram executives.
