Bank: 43% of French people are overdrawn at least once a year

A recent study reveals that 31% of French people find themselves overdrawn more often than last year, primarily due to inflation. 43% experience overdrafts at least once a year, with 18% monthly. New regulations effective November 20 will cap fees for small overdrafts under 200 euros, benefiting consumers. Currently, overdraft fees can exceed the legal limit of 23.60%. Many banks charge minimum quarterly fees instead of interest when overdraft costs are low, which has been criticized as abusive. The upcoming regulations aim to address these issues and improve consumer protection.
