Bar Association President defends opening an inquiry into police actions

The president of the Bar Association, João Massano, called for an inquiry into police actions during protests in Lisbon and Porto to ascertain the truth. He emphasized the importance of understanding whether police exceeded their limits and highlighted the need for legal protection for detainees. Massano noted that both the right to protest and public order are essential, and an investigation by the General Inspectorate of Internal Administration (IGAI) is necessary. He expressed concerns about the treatment of detainees and the absence of lawyers during police interactions. Additionally, he suggested the use of body cameras by police to clarify events during protests.
