Reddit will tie the use of the site to login because artificial intelligence is taking away its visitors

Reddit will require users to log in to access the site, aiming to protect data from AI-driven automated scraping and to establish profitable licensing agreements. This shift comes as traffic from search engines declines due to the rise of AI-based search tools, which reduce clicks to traditional websites. Despite maintaining 130.3 million daily active users globally, Reddit's U.S. user base has dropped from 53.2 million to 50.7 million. The platform plans to test this login requirement in select markets outside the U.S. in Q4, with no immediate timeline for a global rollout. Users will still be able to post anonymously and use incognito mode.
