Belgian parliament to vote on divisive new law allowing police raids on people’s homes, if they are suspected of harbouring an undocumented migrant

Belgium is advancing a bill that permits police to raid homes suspected of harboring undocumented migrants. Scheduled for a parliamentary vote on November 4, the legislation could influence EU deportation regulations. Despite abstaining from a related EU vote due to concerns over deportation facilities, the Belgian government is pushing for this law, led by migration minister Anneleen Van Bossuyt. The proposal has faced significant backlash from human rights advocates and judges, who argue it may infringe on constitutional rights. Police would be allowed to search homes between 5 AM and 9 PM if there are suspicions of hosting a security-threat migrant, even in the presence of children.
