Bellvitge performs the first kidney transplant in Europe with a single incision

Bellvitge Hospital has performed Europe's first kidney transplants using the Da Vinci SP robotic system, which operates through a single incision. This innovative approach reduces postoperative pain and speeds up recovery compared to traditional methods. The hospital, a leader in robotic surgery, aims to conduct around 400 procedures this year using this technology across various specialties. The program, initiated in 2018, has established Bellvitge as a reference center for robotic kidney transplants in Europe, with plans to expand its robotic interventions significantly in the coming years.
