Sony has announced the IMX742 CMOS image sensor designed for single-use medical endoscopes, offering 0.51 effective megapixels in a compact 1 mm × 1 mm size. The sensor utilizes Sony's proprietary bidirectional communication technology, allowing control and video signals to be transmitted over the same cable. It provides low-noise images at 60 fps and stable data transmission over 5 meters, enhancing endoscopic observation. This new sensor expands Sony's offerings, previously focused on reusable endoscopes, to meet the growing demand for single-use devices that facilitate less invasive procedures with improved visibility.
