Toblerone sues a company founded by a teenager over the shape of their chocolate

Mondelēz has taken legal action against the UK vegan chocolate brand Catherine’s Originals, claiming trademark infringement over the shape of its O’bar product, which resembles Toblerone. The company argues that the O’bar's design mimics Toblerone's distinctive triangular shape. Catherine Dodd, founder of Catherine’s Originals, defends the design as representing the letter 'O' and emphasizes their commitment to their creation despite being a small business. Previous attempts by Mondelēz to reach an agreement with Catherine’s Originals were unsuccessful. This case follows a similar incident in 2017 when Poundland had to delay the launch of a chocolate bar resembling Toblerone due to legal warnings from Mondelēz. Additionally, the EU fined Mondelēz €337.5 million for restricting cross-border trade within the EU.
