The I. district municipality would ban Airbnb in the Buda Castle.

The Budavári Municipality announced potential stricter regulations on short-term rentals in the I. district, following community feedback. A recent survey showed that 58.6% of respondents supported a complete ban on such rentals, with 66% in the Buda Castle area. Proposed changes include a total ban on short-term rentals in the Buda Castle by January 1, 2028, and stricter controls and significant fines for violations. The municipality is open to public comments for 15 days, with a final decision expected in November. Existing registered accommodations may continue until the end of 2027, allowing owners time to adapt to the changes. The proposed fines could reach 200,000 HUF for individuals and 2 million HUF for organizations, with potential temporary closures for violations.
