Airbnb may be banned in Buda Castle from 2028, the draft regulation has been completed
The Budapest I district has drafted a regulation to strictly limit short-term rentals, proposing a complete ban on Airbnb in the Buda Castle area starting January 1, 2028. The draft is currently open for public consultation for 15 days, with a final decision expected in November. Outside the castle area, existing rentals would require consent from the condominium to operate after 2028, alongside stricter enforcement and penalties for violations. A recent vote showed that 58.6% of participants supported a total ban, particularly in the Buda Castle area, where support exceeded 66%. Currently, over 400 licensed private accommodations operate in the district, following similar restrictions implemented in the VI district.
