Partisans, aggressors, Gripens and Paris – everyone understood 1956 differently

The commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution featured various interpretations and events, with significant political speeches and public gatherings. Prime Minister Péter Magyar emphasized national pride and independence, while Fidesz supporters held a Flag March instead of a traditional event. Notably, Viktor Orbán was absent, celebrating in Paris instead. The event included remarks from various political figures, highlighting themes of freedom and democracy. Tensions arose between Fidesz supporters and counter-protesters, necessitating police intervention. Meanwhile, the Mi Hazánk party commemorated both the 1956 revolution and the 2006 television headquarters siege, discussing issues like globalism and political interference.
