"The seatbelt came undone." A new test of 16 child seats has a dramatic aftermath

This year's child car seat tests by Stiftung Warentest revealed serious safety issues with two models, prompting early warnings. The ADAC advised against purchasing the Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro with Vario Base 5Z and the Axkid Minikid Core due to high injury risks in accidents. Both seats failed crash tests, with the Britax Römer's buckle releasing and the Axkid's support leg collapsing. ADAC recommended using the Britax seat only in an upright position or without the base. The tests also found harmful substances in some seats, while the Maxi-Cosi Coral Slide Pro emerged as the top performer. Overall, safety and chemical exposure were key concerns in this year's evaluations.
