Biggest ever Fayum portrait show at Ara Pacis until May

An exhibition showcasing ancient Roman-Egyptian Fayum mummy portraits will be held at Rome's Ara Pacis museum from November 5 to May 2. Featuring over 110 works, including rare painted panels and funerary masks, this display highlights the artistic legacy of Fayum portraits, with many pieces never before seen outside Egypt. Notable works include the 'Tondo of the Two Brothers' and the portrait of Isidora, alongside a newly discovered portrait of a 14-year-old boy. The exhibition emphasizes the encaustic technique used in these artworks, which has preserved their vivid detail over centuries. Visitors will also see jewelry from Pompeii, linking the portraits to historical artifacts.
