In a mega hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, around six billion dollars was stolen
The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, has been hacked, resulting in the theft of approximately six billion dollars in crypto. Suspected North Korean hackers executed the breach, prompting Binance to temporarily pause deposits and withdrawals. Analysts noted unusual transactions across ten blockchains, leading to significant amounts being transferred from Binance wallets. Major stablecoin providers, Tether and Circle, froze affected accounts to prevent the hackers from cashing out. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao assured users that funds would be covered, despite a drop in cryptocurrency prices. Binance has faced controversies, including Zhao's resignation as CEO due to a settlement with U.S. authorities over money laundering allegations. The exchange withdrew from the Dutch market in 2024 after failing to obtain necessary registration.
