Nearly 1000 arrests in France, minister satisfied with the course of protests
French police arrested nearly a thousand people during nationwide protests, with 410,000 participants according to the government and 800,000 according to unions. Minister Nuñez reported that police intervention prevented looting and attacks on public buildings. Last week, 385 arrests were made amid violent protests. Demonstrations were also held in other European cities. In Paris, the protest was largely peaceful, but clashes occurred later, leading to police using water cannons and tear gas against rioters. Nuñez condemned the extreme violence from far-left groups.
