Borgerhout restores district house for more than 3 million euros: "An icon that must remain part of the skyline"
The restoration of the district house in Borgerhout will begin, focusing on the tower, facades, roof, windows, and entrance hall floor, with support from Flanders. The project, costing over 3 million euros, aims to preserve this neo-Flemish Renaissance monument, built between 1886 and 1889, which has been protected since 1974. The restoration includes replacing roof tiles, enhancing woodwork, and installing insulating glazing in windows. Additionally, the carillon will be refurbished with new bells and a new keyboard. The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with minimal disruption to public access.
