Bormann's gift worth billions was hated by Hitler. The burned Eagle's Nest awaits repair

Kehlsteinhaus, known as the Eagle's Nest, was a gift for Hitler's 50th birthday but he disliked it, visiting only 14 times. Built between 1937-1938, it cost around 30 million Reichsmarks and was designed by Martin Bormann. Hitler suffered from vertigo and feared the elevator, which contributed to his reluctance to visit. The name "Eagle's Nest" originated from a visit by the French ambassador, who described it as a nest suspended between heaven and earth. After WWII, the site survived bombing and became a restaurant, with plans for restoration following a recent fire.
