Bradáčová wants to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 13. Youth commits more violent acts

Youth crime rates are not increasing, but the nature of offenses is changing, with a shift from theft to violent crimes, including murder. Chief State Prosecutor Lenka Bradáčová discussed this on Czech Television, advocating for a reduction in criminal responsibility age from 15 to 13. The Ministry of Justice is considering this change, which could apply to serious crimes. Bradáčová noted that children are committing increasingly violent acts, reflecting societal radicalization and a lack of mental health care. She emphasized the need for multidisciplinary approaches involving education and health ministries. The Justice Minister plans to propose this change by next summer, while current laws allow protective measures for those under 15.
